About Me

Hello! My name is Evan Earley and I live in Richmond, VA. I currently am working full time at a national mortgage corporation and taking a full course load in Web Programming at John Tyler Community College. Outside of this schedule, I'm working on web design projects when I can find the time. I enjoy technology, web design, photography, mountain biking, hiking, reading literature and graphic novels, NFL football, cinema, and my two wonderful dogs.

Skill Set

I have taken multiple classes in HTML, XHTML, and CSS. I hand code the majority of my work, and keep it very clean, accessible, and cross-browser capable. I use many of the core Adobe Programs including Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks and Flash. There is no limit to what you can achieve with these programs and I enjoy learning how to do more and more with them. As mentioned, my major is in programming; I have taken classes on, C++, Java, JavaScript, and Flash ActionScript 2.0, SQL and can't wait to get into more , PHP, VBS, and AJAX. I also have art and design training from VCU, taking two years before switching majors to English. My English degree and writing ability rounds off a skill set that is perfect for a field that necessitates the writing skills to excel in social media and web 2.0.

Why Web Design/Development?

I've finally found a vocation that I can truly enjoy as well as be successful in. Web design satisfies my need to be creative as well as fulfills my interest in technology and structure. Web design has been called an "ambidextrous" field, in that both the right and left brain must be used; you must be artistic as well as mathematically oriented. I've always excelled at both, but found myself unsure of which direction to take. I've finally found a middle ground to succeed in. Currently my skills seem to be more weighted on the design side as I've become very familiar with the adobe suite, but I am excited to learn more and more programming through my education to be able to create dynamic web applications.
